How to Measure Your Finger at Home

Method 1 — Measure an existing ring If you own a ring that fits the finger you are buying for, measure the inner diameter in millimeters and match it to the chart above. This is the most accurate home method.

Method 2 — String or paper strip method Wrap a thin strip of paper snugly around the base of your finger. Mark where it meets itself. Measure that length in millimeters — this is your circumference. Find it in the chart above to identify your size. If between two sizes always size up.

 

Important Tips

  • Measure at the end of the day — fingers are slightly larger in warm weather and in the evening. Avoid measuring when cold as fingers shrink in cool temperatures.
  • Wider bands fit more snugly — consider sizing up half a size for wide rings.
  • Make sure the ring can pass comfortably over your knuckle.
  • When buying as a gift err on the smaller side — it is easier to size a ring up than down.
